Business Continuity
Power outages, computer problems, fires, natural disasters - all have the power to disrupt vital government services and risk the trust and confidence we have worked hard to establish with the people we serve.
To date, disaster recovery planning has focused on mainframe computing. However, this critical strategic planning has not gained traction where operations depend on new server technologies.
Beyond technology, most disaster planners have not attended to the recovery of business functions and resources, such as alternate work space, mail delivery and essential records. The need to develop dynamic business continuity plans is clear.
The enterprise approach - invent the wheel once
The opportunity to build an enterprise class business continuity strategy is here now. We are leading a collaborative Business Continuity Management initiative that will improve business continuity planning among all state and local government agencies. Working closely with partner agencies, we will identify the primary risks, account for dependencies among colleague organizations and capitalize on the economies of scale possible within an enterprise framework.
Watch for new information as we implement this initiative. Take a look at past collaborative efforts that were led by the Department of Information Services Enterprise Initiatives Group.
