Job Overview

The Department of Information Services is seeking an Information Technology Systems/Applications Specialist 6 (ITS/AS 6) to join the Security Perimeter team. As a member of the Enterprise Security Services (ESS) team, serves as the designated highest level authority and technical lead or supervisor responsible for the statewide perimeter security infrastructure that protects state and local government from the Internet. Responsible for analyzing and designing complex security architecture for mission critical applications and systems. Ensuring the protection of the Internet requires advanced knowledge of complex security technology, Domain Name System administration, Internet security, IP protocol/addressing and rule-based secure access administration, host and network-based intrusion detection technology.

Performs specialized security system architecture, design, acquisition, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution, customer service request and assistance, and security consulting and design reviews for high risk, high impact statewide security systems and services to ensure security of state and local government e-business applications protected by firewalls, managed firewall services, router access control, and intrusion/prevention detection systems.

Possess business knowledge and understands the overall impact of enterprise security to independently deal with high risk, high profile initiatives that impact public services. Serve as a technical mentor, coach and trainer to other ESS team members and as a consultant to management staff.

Desirable Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
  • 3-5 years experience with Firewall administration/configuration and support.
  • 3-5 years experience with carrier-class hardware internetworking.
  • 3-5 years experience with a large customer or service provider network.
  • 2-4 years experience with network/security troubleshooting at an advanced level (Tier 2/Tier 3 level).
  • 2-4 years experience with Networking and router ACL management.
We are most interested in candidates who have:
  • Project management experience, including managing resources, timelines and communications to see project through from inception to timely completion and maintenance.
  • Experience as a technical project lead or technical lead of a workgroup in a large scale IT service provider network.
  • Experience with system design of complex, mission-critical security devices or applications.
  • Experience with administration and support of security information management and intrusion prevention systems.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to communicate technical requirements with cohorts and to translate these into business options for management presentation.
  • Ability to develop written policies for strategic planning and systems support.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries in a timely, courteous and professional manner.
  • VoIP security skills and experience.
  • MPLS experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred with emphasis in computer science, or related field.

Must carry on-call pager on rotating schedule.
