The Washington State Department of Information Services has earned national and international acknowledgment in the form of numerous awards. Listed below are just a few of the honors we've received since 2001:
2007 NASCIO Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of State IT: Government to Business
Sponsored by National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO)
The “Doing Business in Washington” web site, a portal developed by DIS in conjunction with other state agencies, was selected as the nation’s top “Government to Business” digital government initiative by NASCIO. The web site includes detailed information on starting and growing a business in Washington, and serves as a ‘one-stop-shop’ for online applications. Users can apply for state business licenses (with simultaneous license applications for many Washington cities) and report changes in business information.

Tenth Annual Industry Achievement Awards - Outstanding Contribution to Digital Government Award
Sponsored by WSA (formerly Washington Software Alliance)
The AMBER Alert 911 Web Portal, a partner project between DIS and the Washington State Patrol was awarded the Industry Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Digital Government from WSA. The digital government award category was created to recognize and raise awareness of the accomplishments of city, county, and state agencies in transforming the relationship between citizens and their government.
2004-05 Puget Sound Technical Communications Competition - 'Best of Show' & Distinguished Award
Sponsored by the Society for Technical Communication
DIS received "Best of Show" and a Distinguished Award in the Online Communication Competition, technical marketing category for Access Washington™ from the Puget Sound Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. DIS was recognized for its completion of a year-long Web usability study and user-centered redesign of the state's Internet portal.
Ninth Annual Industry Achievement Awards - Finalist for Outstanding Contribution to Digital Government

Governor Gary Locke's Small Agency Initiative, managed by the Department of Information Services, was chosen as a finalist for the Industry Achievement Award for Outstanding Contribution to Digital Government from WSA. From business and consumer applications to contributions to the community and digital government, Industry Achievement Award finalists have made significant contributions to the way citizens work and live.

DIS is a winner of the prestigious CIO 100 award from IDG's CIO magazine. The 2003 CIO 100 award recognizes organizations in both the public and private sectors around the world that excel in positive business performance through resourceful information technology (IT) management and practices.
CIO Magazine - The Resourceful 100 Asset Management

Applications Template and Outfitting Model (ATOM) was recognized as one of CIO Magazine's 100 honorees that reuse hardware and software to improve service, boost the business and, coincidentally, save money. Launched in the fall of 2000, ATOM is an online resource for project management processes and infrastructure components. ATOM includes the policy information, shared infrastructure components, business planning documents, standards and reusable code needed to create an Internet-based government application.
2002 NASCIO Recognition

The Washington state Applications Template and Outfitting Model™ (ATOM) tied for third place in the 2002 NASCIO (National Association of State Information Resource Executives) Recognition Awards for Enterprise Information Architecture. ATOM enables integration and interoperability by sharing necessary policies, available infrastructure and application components in a step-by-step Web-based application.
The NASCIO Recognition Awards honor outstanding achievements in the field of information technology, with emphasis on recognizing information technology initiatives that best assist government officials to innovatively execute their duties and provide cost-effect service to citizens.
Sustained Leadership Award
Sponsored by the Center for Digital Government and the Progress and Freedom Foundation
Washington state received the Sustained Leadership Award for serving its citizens through progressive online programs and making government more accessible through technology. The award is a cumulative honor, based on rankings from the annual Digital State Award. Between 1997 and 2002, Washington won the overall national award three times and consistently scored highest among all states for its progressive and web-enabled social service applications.
2002 Best of the Web Award

Access Washington, the state's service-oriented Web portal tied for third place with the state of Pennsylvania for the 2002 Best of the Web Award. Sites were judged based on innovation and use of Web-based online technology to deliver government or education services, efficiency or time saved, economy or money saved, functionality and public participation.
The CIO Web Business 50 Award™

Access Washington, the state's Internet portal is a winner of the prestigious CIO Web Business 50 Award from CIO magazine. The 5th annual CIO Web Business 50 Award honored 50 outstanding Web sites across business, government and non-profit platforms.
2001 NASIRE Recognition Award State Planning and Management Initiatives

The state of Washington brought home the NASIRE Recognition Award for State Planning and Management Initiatives. At that time, the Washington State Digital Government Plan was the only one of its kind in the nation.
